Staying on the right path

Halling's unbeaten son Coastal Path lands G3 Prix de Barbeville at Longchamp; Oriental Tiger (Tiger Hill) takes his second Group race inside a month

Coastal Path, a four-year-old son of Dalham Hall resident Halling, maintained his unbeaten race record in style on 27 April with a win in the G3 Prix de Barbeville at Longchamp.

In taking the 15-and-a-half furlong contest by a length-and-a-half from Orion Star, Andre Fabre's charge was recording his third victory at Group level, having won the G2 Prix Chaudenay and G3 Prix de Lutece last autumn. He now boasts an impressive race record of five wins from five runs.

Owned and bred by Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farm, Coastal Path is out of the Sadler's Wells mare Coraline, making him a half-brother to G1 Prix du Cadran winner Reefscape, plus multiple Group winner Martaline.

Halling has sired four individual Black type peformers so far this year, including Hattan who won the G3 Winter Derby last month and was placed second in the G3 Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown on Friday.

Also on Sunday, Tiger Hill's five-year-old son Oriental Tiger notched up his second Pattern win inside a month when making all to land the G2 Gerling-Preis at Cologne in Germany. Winner of the G3 Grand Prix Aufgalop on his previous start, he has also been G1-placed on two occasions, finishing second in the Grosser Preis von Baden and third in the German Derby.

Tiger Hill, who is standing at Kildangan Stud for the first time this season, has sired five Black type performers in 2008, including recent Listed winner Young Tiger.
