The highly promising Spin Cycle becomes Exceed And Excel's second northern hemisphere winner in a week

Spin Cycle posted an authoritative win on his second start to take the EBF Maiden Stakes at Hamilton by two-and-a-half lengths on Friday evening.

Trained by Bryan Smart for Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed al Maktoum, the Exceed And Excel colt has clearly benefited from his first run a little under a fortnight ago when he was fifth behind Dispol Kylie, by fellow Darley first-season sire Kheleyf. Having tucked in behind the leaders after breaking well, he quickened impressively in the closing stages to finish with a devastating burst of speed, just three-hundredths of a second outside the all-age course record which was set in 1972 by Golden Sleigh.

Out of the Spinning World mare Spinamix, Spin Cycle was bred by Lisa Kelly and was an 84,000gns (A$181,000) Doncaster yearling purchse. He is a half-brother to the juvenile winner Codeword, by Dansili, who has subsequently been G3-placed in the US.

Spin Cycle's win comes just two days after Masamah's impressive debut at York. Exceed And Excel now has two winners from his four runners in Europe and Flashman's Papers, who has been placed on both his starts to date, seems a likely candidate to add to this tally in the near future.
