Son of Authorized lands first-up Listed victory

Maygrove claims the Jakkalberry Classic in New Zealand

Six-year-old son of Authorized Maygrove proved a class above his rivals in the Listed Jakkalberry Classic at New Zealand’s Arawa Park over 1950m on Saturday October 15.

The grey gelding settled at the rear of the field and made his move at the 600 metre mark when sweeping around the rest of the field. Leading as they turned for home, Maygrove was unrivalled as he cruised to victory to record his third Black type win.

Bred by Louis and Jill Mihalyka of the Laurel Oak Lady Zhivago Syndicate, Maygrove is out of Zabeel mare Lady Zhivago, who is a half-sister to the Stakes placed mare Melody. The gelding is a dual G2 winner of the Gold Cup and the Wellington Cup.

Maygrove is one of 27 Listed winners for his sire Authorized, who also has four G1 winners to his name. They include Hartnell, Complacent, Ambivalent and Seal of Approval.
