Shamardal’s star sprinter on point at Meydan

Blue Point sweeps to victory in G1 Al Quoz Sprint on Dubai World Cup night

Blue Point, a five-year-old son of Kildangan Stud stalwart Shamardal, maintained his unbeaten 2019 record in superb style on Saturday, 30 March when he ran out the easy winner of the G1 Al Quoz Sprint, run over six furlongs at Meydan.

Prominent throughout, William Buick had yet to make his move on Blue Point with two furlongs left to run, but once asked for his effort, Charlie Appleby’s charge simply cruised to the front to win by a length and a quarter.

This was Blue Point’s second victory at the highest level, following his outstanding win in the G1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot last year. He has not put a foot wrong so far in 2019, posting wide-margin victories in the G2 Meydan Sprint and G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint earlier in the Dubai World Cup Carnival.

Blue Point becomes the second consecutive Darley-sired winner of the Al Quoz Sprint, following Jungle Cat’s victory last year.

Blue Point was bred by Oak Lodge Bloodstock and is out of the Royal Applause mare Scarlett Rose, who has a two-year-old colt by first-season sire Night Of Thunder.

Shamardal sires a world-class 11% Stakes winners to runners and has no fewer than 21 G1 winners to his name so far.
