Shamardal’s Alkasser lands Irish Guineas trial

Progressive colt wins the Tetrarch Stakes at the Curragh

The day after his daughter Ihtimal finished a very creditable third in the British 1,000 Guineas, Shamardal looks to have a new Classic contender as his son Alkasser took the seven-furlong Tetrarch Stakes at the Curragh.

Having made his racecourse debut in March (in a race won by Authorized’s smart prospect Answered), the Dermot Weld-trained colt broke his maiden in very impressive style last month, winning over six furlongs by no fewer than six lengths.

Bred by Mount Armstrong Stud, Alkasser is out of the winning King's Best mare Alexander Queen, a half-sister to smart sprinter Dandy Man.

Shamardal has now sired 11 individual Stakes winners this year, including G2-winning trio Excellent Result, Ghibellines and Sommerabend. The aforementioned Ihtimal took both the UAE Guineas and Oaks earlier this year and is set to reappear in the English Oaks next month.

Shamardal stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €50,000 October 1st Special Live Foal.
