Shamardal sires his fourth G1 winner

Casamento wins Racing Post Trophy; Exceed And Excel's Klammer lands G3 Horris Hill Stakes

Shamardal looks to have another serious Classic prospect among his offspring following Casamento’s determined victory in the G1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster on Saturday.

Having sat in behind the leaders, the striking chestnut set for home with two furlongs to run in the final top-flight contest for juveniles in Britain this year, seeing off a challenge from Seville in the closing stages to win by three-quarters of a length.

Bred by D & J Cantillon and C & K Canning, Casamento is out of Wedding Gift, by Always Fair, and is a half-brother to Inler. He won on debut at Tipperary in August before running second in the G1 National stakes and winning the G2 Beresford Stakes, the race won two years ago by Cape Cross’s great champion Sea The Stars.

Casamento joins VRC Oaks winner Faint Perfume, dual French Classic winner Lope De Vega and Epsom Handicap winner Captain Sonador on the list of Shamardal's Group One winners.

At Newbury, Klammer, by Exceed And Excel, came off best in a thrilling finish to the G3 Horris Hill Stakes. Trained by Australian ex-pat Jane Chapple-Hyam, Klammer was an inexpensive yearling purchase at Tattersalls last year, knocked down for 16,000gns to the trainer who sold hm on to his Hong Kong-based owner Yan Wah Wu. Klammer has rewared his connections handsomely, with a Listed victory at Deauville and a runner-up finish to Frankel in the G2 Royal Lodge Stakes in addition to Saturday's win. He will race next year in Hong Kong.

Klammer was bred by Ermyn Lodge Stud and is out of the Darshaan mare Aymara. He is the tenth Group winner for Exceed And Excel.
