Seventh G1 winner for Shamardal

The Aga Khan’s Sagawara wins the Prix Saint-Alary

Following in the hoofprints of such great names as Sarafina and Stacelita, Shamardal’s three-year-old daughter Sagawara gave her owner/breeder the Aga Khan yet another Group One success with victory in the Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp on Sunday.

Out of Sagalina, a full-sister to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Sagamix, the Alain de Royer Duper-trained Sagawara was making just her fourth start, having finished runner-up by a quarter of a length to Trois Lunes in the G3 Prix Vanteaux on her most recent previous outing.

Kildangan Stud resident Shamardal, who stands for €50,000, has made an outstanding start to his stud career. With his eldest runners now five, he boasts seven individual Group One winners, including French dual Classic hero Lope De Vega and Racing Post Trophy winner Casamento, and is the sire of 35 stakes winners in total.
