Second Stakes win for son of Authorized

Battalion strikes in the Quebec Stakes at Lingfield

Authorized’s talented son Battalion won his second Stakes race on Saturday 17 December when running out the easy winner of the Listed Quebec Stakes at Lingfield Park. Missing the break slightly, he was held up near the rear early, before making his challenge turning into the short straight and after quickening clear, he held off the late challenge of Dubai Fashion (Dubawi) in second.

The winner of the Listed Fashion Stakes last season for his previous trainer William Haggas, he looks a tremendous pick-up for current connections, making it two-for-two for Jamie Osborne after his 70,000Gns sale in October.

Bred by Kildaragh Stud, Battalion is the best performer out of the Halling mare Zigarra, who is a half-sister to the US Graded winner Silent Name, who was also placed in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile.

Authorized, who is standing this coming season at a fee of €10,000, has sired this season the G1 winner Hartnell, who is the top-rated male performer in Australia, and fellow Stakes winners Maygrove, Signoff and Elite Army.
