Rosemary Stakes success for Zurigha

Cape Cross records his second Stakes winner in two days

Cape Cross’s three-year-old daughter Zurigha continued a fine week for her sire at Newmarket on 27 September when flying home in the closing stages to land the one-mile Listed Rosemary Stakes.

The Richard Hannon-trained filly did not enjoy the easiest of starts, finding herself short of racing room and was held up in last early on. Switched left, she progressed smoothly a furlong from home and ran on superbly to win by three quarters of a length from multiple G1 winner Igugu.

This was the third career victory for the lightly-raced filly, who was fourth in this year’s G1 French 1,000 Guineas. She is now likely to head to Dubai for the Carnival.

Bred by Sir Nicholas and Lady Nugent, Zurigha is out of the unraced Docksider mare Noyelles, also dam of multiple Stakes winner and G1 performer Lily’s Angel.

Cape Cross is now sire of 23 individual Stakes performers this year so far, and has sired no fewer than nine G1 winners during his illustrious career.
