Reasons to be cheerful

HRH Princess Haya’s four-year-old filly Joviality provided Cape Cross with his 26th winner at G1 or G2 level on the second day of Royal Ascot when putting up a tremendously gutsy performance to win the G2 Windsor Forest Stakes.

Settled in mid division under William Buick, the John Gosden-trained filly made her move two furlongs from home and battled superbly to win by a neck from the well-fancied Chachamaidee, with Lay Time a further length back in third.

This was the second Group victory for Joviality, who won the Musidora Stakes last year. She becomes the second winner of the race for Cape Cross, following Sabana Perdida's victory in 2008.

Bred by Highclere Stud and Floors Farming, Joviality is out of the winning Night Shift mare Night Frolic, making her a half-sister to Manduro’s G2 winner Bonfire.
