Progressive daughter of Raven’s Pass lands first G1

Romantic Proposal burst through the field to win the G1 Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh

Romantic Proposal, a daughter of Raven’s Pass, became the latest G1 winner for her sire with a late surge sealing victory in the G1 Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday, 12 September.

Winner of the Listed Belgrave Stakes in June and placed in G2 company on her last run, the progressive mare has made giant strides this season under the tutelage of trainer Eddie Lynam. Racing on the nearside, Romantic Proposal stalked the leaders before making a challenge in the final furlong, bursting through the field to win by half a length and sealing a first G1 victory.

Bred by Fastnet Stud, Romantic Proposal is out of the winning Diktat mare Playwithmyheart, a half-sister to G1 winner Toylsome. They are out of a half-sister to Queen Mary heroine Dance Parade, herself dam of dual G1w Leading Light.

Romantic Proposal is the fourth G1 winner for Champion miler Raven’s Pass alongside the G1-winning sprinter Tower Of London, G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere victor Royal Marine and G1 Al Maktoum Challenge winner Matterhorn.

Raven’s Pass is the sire of 37 individual Stakes winners at an excellent strike rate of 8.4%, and among his Stakes performers this season are Miss Houston Turf Stakes victrix Raven’s Cry and the G1-placed Lemista.
