Poetic Flare impresses in the G1 St James’s Palace Stakes

Son of Dawn Approach impresses at Royal Ascot

Poetic Flare, a son of New Approach’s Classic-winning son Dawn Approach, landed his second G1 of 2021 when taking the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. Already the winner of the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket, he attempted the “Guineas treble”, only just being denied by Mac Swiney, another son of New Approach, in the Irish equivalent.

A Jim Bolger homebred, he is out of the Rock Of Gibraltar mare Maria Lee, who hails from the extended family of Teofilo.

Dawn Approach has sired six G1 performers, four of which have either won or placed in European Classics. The sire line’s affinity with the Classics is no better illustrated by New Approach’s star son Masar, winner of the Derby ten years after his sire in 2018, and who now stands alongside him at Dalham Hall Stud, Newmarket.
