Pinatubo adds a new Stakes winner in style

Pivotal Attack flies to victory in the Listed Corrib Fillies Stakes at Galway

Pinatubo is enjoying a very successful year on the racecourse and on Thursday, 30 July he added a seventh individual 2026 Black Type winner to his record when three-year-old filly Pivotal Attack stormed home to land the Listed Corrib Fillies Stakes at Galway.

Joseph Murphy’s charge was settled in second during the early stages of the seven-furlong contest, before being ridden along approaching the home turn. Taking the lead close to home, she quickened very impressively in the closing stages to move clear and win by a length and a half.

Pivotal Attack has previously been placed twice in Group company, finishing second in the G3 Weld Park Stakes on her final start at two, before opening her three-year-old campaign with a third in the G3 Priory Belle Stakes.

Bred by Miss K J Keir, Pivotal Attack is out of Romp (Pivotal), making her a half sister to Night Of Thunder’s G2-winning son Flight Plan, plus two further winners.

Pinatubo has 23 Black Type horses to his name, headed by G2 winner Qilin Queen and Classic performer Komorebi. His third crop were well received at the yearling sales and has already produced a Stakes winner in Glorious Game.
