Penny’s Picnic Eclipses his rivals at Chantilly

Kheleyf juvenile adds a second Stakes win to his record, winning the G3 Prix Eclipse; Interesting (Raven’s Pass) runs well to finish second

Kheleyf has been enjoying an outstanding year with his best crop of juveniles to date, and is on course to break Invincible Spirit’s record of 42 two-year-old winners in one season.

On 12 October, one of his most talented juveniles this campaign, Penny’s Picnic, recorded his second Stakes victory in style when running out the convincing winner of the G3 Prix Eclipse at Chantilly.

Held up during the early stages of the six-furlong contest, Penny’s Picnic soon quickened and once he hit the front, ran on superbly to win by two-and-a-half lengths. This was his fourth career victory, having won his first three starts including the Listed Prix la Fleche. Interesting (by Darley first-season sire Raven's Pass) also ran with credit to take second and gain her first Black type.

Bred by F Montauban, Penny’s Picnic is the first foal out of the Kingmambo mare Zerky, a full-sister to the multiple Group winner Penny’s Gold and a granddaughter of the Champion Mrs Penny. Zerky also has a full-sister yearling to Penny’s Picnic and is currently in foal to Iffraaj.

Kheleyf has recorded no fewer than 31 individual two-year-old winners so far this year, including a further three Black type performers including Listed winners Virtual Game and Go Angellica.
