Palace Pier sires his first winner

Morris Dancer victorious over seven furlongs at Haydock

First-season sire Palace Pier opened his winner’s account on Friday, 30 May when his two-year-old son Morris Dancer ran out the ready winner of the seven-furlong novice at Haydock Park.

The John and Thady Gosden-trained colt was settled in midfield under Robert Havlin, before making his move two furlongs from home. He quickened impressively, coming down the centre of the track with a sustained effort to lake the lead inside the final furlong and win by a length and a quarter.

A Godolphin homebred, Morris Dancer is out of the winning Dubawi mare Menuetto, herself a daughter of Stakes winner Measured Tempo. They are from the family of French Derby victor Anabaa Blue.

Palace Pier was a World Champion miler and five-time G1 winner during his racing career, including the St James’s Palace Stakes, the Queen Anne and back-to-back renewals of the Prix Jacques le Marois.
