Opinion Poll records his fifth Group win

Halling’s outstanding son heads up a 1-2-3 for the Darley stallions in the G3 Henry II Stakes at Sandown

Six-year-old entire Opinion Poll has been a wonderfully consistent campaigner for Halling, finishing in the first three in no fewer than 20 of his 24 starts, and on 31 May he notched up his fifth victory at Group level with a resounding win in the G3 Henry II Stakes at Sandown.

Settled in fourth position under Frankie Dettori, Opinion Poll took the lead with two furlongs left to run and from then on, the result was never in doubt as he quickened impressively and won going away by two and three-quarter lengths.

Ibicenco (Shirocco) also ran well to take second and add further Black type to his record, while Chiberta King (King's Best) was close behind in third to complete the Darley-sired trifecta.

Opinion Poll will now be aimed at the Gold Cup at Ascot’s Royal meeting next month, where he will aim to go one better than his second place last year.

Halling is sire of 24 individual Group winners, including two at the highest level. Cavalryman, who won the G1 Grand Prix de Paris as a three-year-old, returned to winning ways at York at the weekend and hold entries in the Gold Cup and the Irish St Leger.
