For the notebook: Elation

A regular look at maiden winners by Darley sires. This week: Elation, Cape Cross’s daughter out of the exceptional Attraction

Elation, the first foal out of five-time G1 winner Attraction and sired by Cape Cross, recorded her first win in eyecatching fashion at Lingfield on Wednesday, running out the easy winner of the seven-furlong fillies’ maiden.

Making all under Joe Fanning – who incidentally steered Attraction herself to her second racecourse victory back in 2003, Elation was ridden along with a furlong left to run and soon moved clear of her rivals, running on impressively to win by four and a half lengths.

Bred by Floors Farming and running in the colours of the Duke Of Roxburgh, Elation is trained - as her dam was - by Mark Johnston.

Cape Cross has now sired 22 individual two-year-old winners this year, including unbeaten G3 winner Behkabad and fellow Black type winners Colonial and Mudaaraah.

He has also had a successful year with his older progeny, headed of course by the outstanding six-time G1 winner Sea The Stars.

Cape Cross stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €35,000 Special live foal.
