New winner for Cloth Of Stars

Colt with ‘great attitude’ takes the race in which Adayar broke his maiden

First-season sire Cloth Of Stars recorded a very promising new winner on Wednesday, 26 October when Laafi took the Golden Horn Maiden Stakes at Nottingham.

The William Haggas-trained colt was settled in mid division under Cieran Fallon for much of the nine-and-a-half-furlong contest, before coming with a sustained late run to take the lead inside the final furlong and win by half a length.

This was the race which Adayar won in 2020, before going on to victory in the Derby and the King George. It is named after another Derby winner in Golden Horn, after he broke his maiden in this contest back in 2014.

Laafi was bred by Monsieur Eric Puerari and is out of a half-sister to Dubawi's multiple G1 winner Erupt.

Cloth Of Stars has not only been enjoying success on the racecourse this year – his 2022 yearling average of €46,000 is even better than his first-crop average and he has had three yearlings sell for six figures this year.
