New Stakes winner for Kheleyf

Spice Route (King’s Best) wins the G3 Singspiel Stakes at Woodbine

Kheleyf (pictured), a consistent source of speedy juveniles, recorded a new Stakes-winning two-year-old on 4 July when Moonlight Red landed the Listed Premio Mantovani in Milan.

In winning the seven-and-a-half-furlong contest by a neck, the filly recorded her second win in three starts, having won over seven furlongs in Rome last month.

Bred by Islanmore Stud, Moonlight Red is out of the winning Rainbow Quest mare Mill Rainbow, a half-sister to five Black type performers including G3 winner Miss Caerleona – dam of two Group winners in Karen’s Caper and Miss Coronado. Kheleyf has now sired 14 individual Black type performers, including G1-placed, G2 winner Sayif.

Also on Sunday, Spice Route, a six-year-old son of King's Best, recorded his third victory at Group level when winning the G3 Singspiel Stakes by almost four lengths at Woodbine.

Settled towards the rear, Spice Route made his move entering the home straight and soon opened up an unassailable lead, romping home to win by three and three quarter lengths.

Spice Route won the G2 Elkhorn Stakes at Keeneland last year and was second in the G1 Canadian International a year earlier.

Bred by Usk Valley Stud, Spice Route is out of the G1-winning In The Wings mare Zanzibar, who has a 2010 colt by Raven's Pass and was covered by Cape Cross this year.

King’s Best has been enjoying a tremendous year so far, siring 12 Black type performers including the world’s highest rated horse and record-breaking Derby winner Workforce, plus Japanese Derby winner Eishin Flash.
