New Stakes winner for Cape Cross

Field Day runs out the three-length winner of the Listed Valiant Stakes at Ascot

Field Day, a three-year-old daughter of Cape Cross, recorded her third career victory in style on 23 July when successfully stepping up in class to take the Listed Valiant Stakes at Ascot.

Settled off the sedate early pace set by Flora Trevelyan, the Brian Meehan-trained filly was ridden along approaching the two-furlong marker and quickening impressively inside the final furlong, skipped clear of her rivals to win the one-mile contest by three lengths. She has now won three times and been placed second once in just four starts.

Owned and bred by Ballymacoll Stud, Field Day is out of the winning Last Tycoon mare Naval Affair, herself a daughter of G3 winner Sailor’s Mate and from the family of Hellenic.

Cape Cross has been enjoying a superb season, recording ten individual Black type winners including G1 victors Able One and Behkabad. He has sired a further eight black-type performers, including Mudaaraah, who was runner-up in the Listed Lyric Stakes at York also on 23 July.
