New juvenile Group winner for Cape Cross

Cape Dollar lands the Rockfel Stakes, with Crystal Capella landing the Pride Stakes to complete a G2 double at Newmarket for her sire

Cape Cross recorded his tenth individual Group winner of 2010 on Saturday, when two-year-old filly Cape Dollar took the seven-furlong G2 Rockfel Stakes at headquarters.

Settled off the early pace set by her paternal half-sister and eventual third I Love Me, Cape Dollar responded well to jockey Ryan Moore and made smooth progress to take the lead close to home and win by half a length from Cochabamba.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained filly has now won or placed in all of her four starts, having broken her maiden at Newbury back in June (beating subsequent G3 winner Majestic Dubawi, by Dubawi), before finishing third behind Theysken’s Theory (by Darley America stallion Bernardini) in the G3 Prestige Stakes in August.

Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock and running in the colours of Saeed Suhail, Cape Dollar is the first foal to race out of the Kingmambo mare Green Dollar, herself a daughter of Irish 1,000 Guineas second Strawberry Roan – a full sister to Imagine.

The next race at Newmarket was the G2 Pride Stakes, run over 12 furlongs and is a race which Crystal Capella (also by Cape Cross) has made her own in recent years and the five-year-old mare made a fantastic return to the track after a year away to record her second win in the race.

Like Cape Dollar, Crystal Capella is trained by Sir Michael Stoute ridden by Ryan Moore and was settled in midfield but once asked to quicken always looked the likely winner and eased clear of her rivals to win by four and half lengths.

Now the winner of seven of her 11 starts, Crystal Capella may now head overseas for a tilt at the valuable Hong Kong Vase.

Bred by Southcourt Stud, Crystal Capella is out of the Listed-winning Mark Of Esteem mare Crystal Star.

Cape Cross is also sire this year of G1 winners Behkabad and Able One, plus a further four horses that have won at G2 level.
