New Group winner for Too Darn Hot

Impressive performance sees Darnation land G3 Prestige Stakes

Darnation was a brilliant new Group winner for first season sire Too Darn Hot, as she went clear inside the final furlong to take the seven furlong G3 Presitge Fillies’ Stakes at Goodwood on Saturday, 26 August.

Although jumping slightly slowly, the Karl Burke-trained filly was ridden to sit second by Sam James. Travelling strongly as the field tracked across to the stands side, Darnation got a position on the near side rail and picking up to rally inside the final furlong she came between fillies to gamely take up the lead, striding out to a convincing two-length victory from Carla’s Way in second.

This was Darnation’s first try in Group company having previously run twice in novice races.  Finishing third at Haydock on her debut at the beginning of July, she then broke her maiden at Thirsk by an impressive 10-lengths, three weeks on from her first start.

Darnation holds an entry for the G2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket at the end of September, which may be her next target.

Owned and bred by Newtown Anner Stud Farm, Darnation is the first foal out of the unraced mare Monday Monday (Galileo), herself an own-sister to G3-placed Exemplar and half-sister to Champion three-year-old filly, Blue Bunting.

Too Darn Hot, who is a Champion two-year-old colt in Europe, has so far sired 11 individual winners.  Amongst those winners are G3-winning filly Fallen Angel (Sweet Solera Stakes) and Listed-placed colt Son who won his maiden on his second start.
