New Group winner for Cape Cross

Convergence takes the Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown

Cape Cross’s three-year-old son Convergence became the latest Group winner for his sire on 18 June when running out the gutsy winner of the G3 Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown.

Setting the pace from the off, the Ger Lyons-trained colt was still in front with a furlong left to run and headed by the favourite Tested close to home, rallied superbly to regain the lead and win the seven-furlong contest by a neck.

This was his third Black type win, having taken the Listed Canford Cliffs Stakes at two, before reappearing this year with a victory over War Envoy (who won at Royal Ascot yesterday) in the Patton Stakes in April.

Convergence was bred by Shadwell Stud and is now owned by Vincent Gaul. He is the first foal to race out of the Stakes-placed Nayef mare Zahoo, herself a half-sister to Group winner Tactic.

Cape Cross is enjoying a very successful year, thanks in no small part to his brilliant Derby winner Golden Horn and German 2,000 Guineas victor Karpino, who are among 16 Black type performers for the Kildangan stalwart so far this year.
