Nearly Caught takes the Listed Esher Stakes

Son of New Approach wins the Sandown contest for the second successive season

New Approach’s excellent stayer Nearly Caught landed the Listed Esher Stakes for the second successive season on Saturday, 7 July. Held up early, he made a decisive move out wide in the straight to win very easily by a length-and-a-quarter.

From the first crop of New Approach, Nearly Caught has now won eight career races including the G2 Prix Kergorlay two seasons ago.

Bred by the Irish National Stud, he is a half-brother to Stakes winner Pale Mimosa with his dam, Katch Me Katie a half-sister to G1 performers Kool Kat Katie and Kalypso Katie.

New Approach’s current Classic crop, bred after Dawn Approach and Talent's Classic victories, already includes Derby hero Masar, Hey Gaman, who was only just denied in the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains, easy G2-winning filly Waldlied and Royal Ascot handicap winner Ostilio.
