First-season sire Naval Crown added a new winner to his record on Tuesday, 28 July when his improving son Agrippa landed the valuable six-furlong maiden on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood.
The Richard Hannon-trained colt was always in touch under Pat Dobbs, before making headway two furlongs out. He kept on superbly inside the final furlong to win by a head from another promising colt in Dorigo (Space Blues).
Agrippa was narrowly beaten at Newbury last time out and could return to the Berkshire track later this year, as he holds an entry in the G2 Mill Reef.
He was bred by Emir Alkas and was purchased by Peter and Ross Doyle for 55,000 guineas at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2. He is out of the winning Raven’s Pass mare Zaakhir, a half-sister to G2 winner Marbaan and G3 winner Convergence.
Naval Crown, a son of the great Dubawi, won the Convivial Maiden himself at two, going on to place twice at Group level during his juvenile campaign. His finest racecourse performance was at Royal Ascot, where he defeated an exceptional field to win the G1 Platinum Jubilee.
