Moiqen's turn to shine

Red Ransom's great weekend continues with another winner of a G3 Classic trial, this time the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown

Red Ransom sired the winner of two Classic trials in two days thanks to the exploits of unbeaten filly Muthabara and improving colt Moiqen, both carrying the colours of their breeder Sheikh Hamdan al Maktoum.

Following Muthabara’s promising display in the Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury on Saturday, Moiqen returned to Leopardstown on Sunday, where he had been runner-up to Famous Name in the 2,000 Guineas Trial a fortnight ago. The Kevin Prendergast-trained colt went one better this time to record his second win in just four starts and his first at Group level in the Ballysax Stakes over ten furlongs.

The Ballysax Stakes has been a great pointer to Derby success in recent years with previous winners Galileo and High Chaparral both going on to score at Epsom and runners-up Sinndar and Alamshar winning the English and Irish Derby respectively.

Moiqen is out of the unraced Mr Prospector mare Za Aamah while Muthabara is out of a grand-daughter of Mr Prospector, Hureya (Woodman), whose dam is a half-sister to Bahri and Bahhare.
