Metropolitan Stakes victory for son of New Approach

Best Approach adds further Black Type to his record in Tokyo

Best Approach, a British-bred son of New Approach, added a well-deserved first Stakes win to his record on Saturday, 5 May with a convincing win in the Listed Metropolitan Stakes at Tokyo, Japan.

The four-year-old Godolphin colt was sent off as favourite to take the 12-furlong contest on the turf and did not disappoint as he eased to a three-quarter-length win.

Best Approach has now won on three occasions and was second in the G2 TV Tokyo Hai Aoba Sho over the same course and distance last year.

Best Approach was bred by Car Colston Hall Stud and is out of the Stakes-placed Efisio mare Sant Elena, making him a half-brother to G1 Darley Prix Morny and G1 Middle Park Stakes winner Reckless Abandon. The mare is herself a half-sister to multiple G1 winner Ticker Tape (Royal Applause).

New Approach is enjoying a very successful season so far and has now sired nine individual Black Type performers. They are headed by nine-length Craven Stakes winner Masar, who lines up in the G1 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket later today.

New Approach stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £30,000, Oct 1, SLF.
