Filly Mina Salaam beats colts in Zimbabwe Guineas

Different surfaces. Different distances. Different continents. The Medagalia d'Oros are equal opportunity stakes winners around the world. The filly Mina Salaam exemplifies Medaglia d’Oro’s tremendous appeal and reach as she bested the opposite sex in Zimbabwe on February 27th, winning the one-mile Phumelela Zimbabwe Guineas at Borrowdale Park by five lengths.

Bred by Northfield’s Stud in South Africa, the three-year-old filly has now won or placed in five of seven career starts, including a Stakes placing in the G3 Three Troikas. Mina Salaam is out of the champion South African mare Circle of Life, she a half-sister to G1 winners African Lion and Zebra Crossing.

Medaglia d’Oro’s 24 career Stakes winners also include Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra and a trio of 2010 G1 winners in Warrior’s Reward, Gabby’s Golden Gal and Champagne d’Oro. His four 2011 Stakes winners also include recent G2 Santa Maria winner Vision in Gold.
