Maygrove fights off all challenges to win NZ G3

Son of Authorized takes out Counties Cup at Pukekohe

A defiant win by Maygrove in the G3 Counties Cup at Pukekohe, NZ, on 25 November has confirmed his place among the best of his sire Authorized’s southern hemisphere offspring.

Maygrove claimed the lead with 300m to run and had to fight off constant challenges under his topweight of 60kg, before forging clear at the line to defeat Five To Midnight and Promise To Reign.

Already a winner of four Stakes races including the G2 Awapuni Cup, Maygrove joins Godolphin’s Complacent as Authorized’s best southern hemisphere-bred sons.

A stallion who has stood in five countries and sired winners in 14, Authorized also produced the UK-bred Hartnell, a stakes winner in England and a multiple G1 winner for Godolphin in Australia where he was ranked second only to Winx.

Maygrove is the only winner from two foals to race from his dam Lady Zhivago, but his female family includes the outstanding filly Tristanagh, the winner in Australia of the G1 1000 Guineas and G1 VRC Oaks.

Bred by Laurel Oak, Maygrove has now won nine races and is among Authorized’s 31 Stakes winners.

Authorized stands at Haras du Logis, France, at a fee of 12,000, special live foal.
