Man on a mission

Mandaean (Manduro) wins the G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud

With the European flat season drawing to a close, Manduro made sure he signed off with a bang when his son Mandaean won the last G1 race, the Criterium de Saint-Cloud run over 2000m. Always prominent, although slightly keen, the one-raced unbeaten colt took the lead at the head of the straight and never looked in any danger from his rivals, and despite still showing signs of greenness and wandering, he ran on well to the line to win by two-and-a-half lengths.

Bred by Darley, he is a half-brother to 2011 G1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine Wavering, who is by Haras du Logis’s new recruit Refuse To Bend. Mandaean’s dam, Summertime Legacy (Darshaan), was a G3-winning juvenile in France who was placed in at the highest level in the Prix Saint-Alary. She also has produced a full-brother yearling to Mandaean, a colt foal by Dalham Hall stallion Halling and is currently in foal to New Approach.

Manduro, the scintillating Horse of the Year and world Champion racehorse of 2007, has sired a number of very promising winners. Bonfire won well on his debut before finishing a luckless third in the G1 Criterium International, Kolonel, an unbeaten colt in Germany, is very well regarded by his trainer Andreas Wohler and Miss Manduro, is an unbeaten filly in Italy who won by 13 lengths on her debut.

Manduro will stand this coming season at Kildangan Stud in Ireland for €10,000, Oct 1st, SLF.
