Maiden Stakes success for son of New Approach

Astronomos proves too strong for his rivals

Son of New Approach and heavy track specialist Astronomos demonstrated his dominance to land his maiden Stakes victory in the Listed Randwick City Stakes over 2000m on Saturday March 4 at Royal Randwick.

Well-suited by the easy tempo throughout, the six-year-old gelding settled towards the rear of the field and patiently waited for a gap to open upon turning for home. Astronomos unleashed an unrivalled turn of foot and cruised to an easy victory.

Bred by Hascombe and Valiant Studs, Astronomos is out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Crimson Ribbon, who is a full sister to the G2 Newmarket Jockey Club Stakes winning colt Bronze Cannon, as well as Valiant Girl who is a G3 winner. This is also the family of Champion 2YO filly and multiple G1 winner Alpride.

European Champion at two and three, New Approach is sire of six G1 winners. His progeny are headed by the impressive Dawn Approach whose first two-year-olds made their racetrack debut this year.

New Approach stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £30,000, whilst his sire son Dawn Approach stands at Kildangan Stud at €30,000, both October 1 SLF terms.
