Iffraaj extends first-season record

Dunmore Boy becomes his 37th winner of the year

Less than a week after Europe’s leading freshman sire Iffraaj passed Invincible Spirit’s record for the number of individual first-crop winners, his son Dunmore Boy has added yet another to his tally with success over five furlongs at Wolverhampton.

Bred by Conor Murphy and Rathmore Stud, the colt is out of the Mozart mare Night Club, who is a half-sister to the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches winner Danseuse Du Soir. Dunmore Boy is trained by Richard Fahey, who has also masterminded the success of Iffraaj’s unbeaten Group One winner Wootton Bassett.

Unsurprisingly, given that he has now sired 37 two-year-old winners in 2010, Iffraaj’s offspring continue to be popular at the sales, with a colt foal being bought for 78,000gns yesterday at Tattersalls.
