Here comes the Cavalry

Halling three-year-olds in fine form with French Stakes win and impressive maiden victory

Cavalryman, a three-year-old son of Halling, was the wide-margin winner of the Listed Prix Matchem at Saint-Cloud on Monday. The Darley homebred finished six lengths clear of the rest of the field on only his fifth start having finished runner-up to his paternal half-brother Cutlass Bay in the G2 Prix Greffulhe on his last start.

A son of the Highest Honor mare Silversword, Cavalryman won his maiden second time out at the same course last October.

Another Halling three-year-old shed his maiden tag in similarly fine style when making all at Leicester. The Mark Johnston-trained Sabotage pulled clear of his rivals to land the eleven-furlong contest by six lengths on only his second racecourse appearance. Also bred by Darley, Sabotage is out of Cunas (Irish River) and looks to be another exciting staying prospect for his sire, whose top-class runners include Melbourne Cup runner-up Bauer and Group Two winner Coastal Path.
