Halling four-year-old wins St Leger Italiano

Group 3 victor becomes his sire's 46th Stakes winner

Halling colt Donn Halling  got the upper hand in a terrific battle for the G3 St Leger Italiano over a mile and six furlongs at San Siro on Saturday.

Bred in Ireland by Lynch Bages Ltd, the four-year-old is out of the Shaadi mare Papering, who also boasted decent form in Italy. She won the G2 Premio Lydia Tesio and G3 Premio Federico Tesio for her breeder Sheikh Mohammed in 1997 and has also produced the Group-placed Listed winner Dossier at stud.

Halling, whose Group 1-winning son Cavalryman has just arrived in Australia ahead of his bid in the Melbourne Cup, stands at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket and is the sire of 46 Stakes winners.
