G3 double for Bertolini

Moorhouse Lad wins Newbury sprint and New Zealand-bred Juice lands second career Stakes victory

Bertolini was responsible for Group Three winners on two continents on Saturday when Moorhouse Lad won the Dubai Duty Free World Trophy at Newbury and three-year-old filly Juice remained unbeaten this season after winning the six-furlong Gold Trail Stakes at Hastings in New Zealand.

Now five, Moorhouse Lad, who was bred by Peter Onslow, has won six races, including the G3 King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwod last August. He is a son of Record Time, by Clantime, who is also the dam of five-time winner Off The Record.

Juice, a product of Bertolini's tenure at Rich Hill Stud in New Zealand, ran five times as a two-year-old, breaking her maiden in Listed company in the New Zealand Bloodstock 2YO Fillies’ Stakes, having also been placed three times, including once in another Listed contest. She made her three-year-old debut on 30 August, winning the Bay Ford Hawke’s Bay Premier. Bred by J F Marks, she is out of the Christmas Tree mare Call Minder.

Group Three winner Medic Power is another of Bertolini's New Zealand-bred offspring. The gelding now races in Hong Kong and is set to resume after a spell and a winning performance in a Sha Tin barrier trial this week.

Russian Cross, by Cape Cross, a Group Two winner at Deauville on his last start, was runner-up by a head in the G2 Prix du Prince d'Orange at Longchamp. On the same card, there was further black type for Canwinn, a son of Refuse To Bend, who was third in the G3 Prix des Chenes. The colt is one of ten winners for the first-season sire and has also been Listed-placed at Deauville.
