Kildangan Stud resident and first-season sire Kheleyf opened his winners’ account in style on 31 March when Percolator ran out the convincing winner of the five-furlong fillies’ maiden at Lingfield.
Having finished a creditable second on her debut a week ago, the Paul Cole-trained filly had clearly learned from her experience, bounding out of the stalls to move swiftly clear of her rivals before being eased approaching the line to win by two-and-a-half lengths.
Bred by Henry Robinson, Percolator is out of the winning Common Grounds mare Coffee Cream, who has already produced a Darley-sired winner in Mocha Java (Bertolini). She is from the family of smart juvenile and 2,000 Guineas second Even Top.
Kheleyf, himself a speedy juvenile who landed the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot on his three-year-old debut, has four two-year-olds entered in the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale in a fortnight’s time, with a further two due to sell at the Guineas Breeze Up Sale next month.
