First Stakes victory for Magnolia Springs

Daughter of Shamardal takes the Listed Height Of Fashion Stakes

Magnolia Springs, a three-year-old daughter of Shamardal, gained a very valuable Stakes victory on Thursday, 24 May when easily winning the Listed Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood. Trained by Eve Johnson Houghton, the lightly raced filly was never extended to win by nearly three lengths in the ten-furlong contest.

Bred by Airlie Stud and bought by current connections for €105,000 as a yearling, she is a daughter of the winning Rainbow Quest mare Rainbow City, who is a half-sister to the Group winners Gamut and Multicoloured. Rainbow City also has an unraced juvenile filly by Dawn Approach named Road To Oz and hails from the extended family of top-flight winners North Light, Golan, Sought Out and Tannery.

Shamardal has now sired 118 individual Stakes winners including 19 that have scored at the highest level including last month’s Queen Elizabeth II Cup hero Pakistan Star. He also has had this season the Derby hopeful Hazapour, recent winner of the G3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown.
