First Group victory for son of Iffraaj

Forest Of Dean strikes in the G3 Winter Derby at Lingfield

Forest Of Dean, a son of Iffraaj, landed his biggest success to date on Saturday, 27 February when winning the G3 Winter Derby at Lingfield Park. Kicking for home off the home bend, he soon had a decisive lead before holding on for a three-quarters-of-a-length triumph.

Bred by Car Colston Hall Stud, Forest Of Dean is out of the Stakes-placed mare Forest Crown (Royal Applause), who was placed in both the Dick Hern Fillies’ Stakes and Fleur de Lys Stakes. Forest Crown has produced six winners including the Group-placed pair Rionach and Golden Crown.

Iffraaj is standing this season at a fee of £20,000 and has now sired 75 individual Stakes winners including dual Champion Ribchester. Forest Of Dean was his second Stakes winner on the day after Western Empire, winner of the Listed Lex Piper Stakes at Ascot in Australia.
