First foals on the ground for Champion two-year-old Native Trail 

'Magnificent colt' and 'lovely filly' among new arrivals

The new foaling season is now getting into full swing, and the highly anticipated first foals by Champion juvenile and Classic winner Native Trail are now arriving.

The first reported foal was born on 22 January at Elevage de Tourgeville, out of Bourbonesque, and was described by his breeders as, "A magnificent colt." The mare is a half-sister to top-class miler and G1 winner Aqlaam.

Next came a "lovely filly" out of proven Black Type producer Dealer's Choice for Tactful Finance Ltd who arrived at Kiltinan Castle Stud a day later. Jon Shack also said that the mare would be returning to Native Trail this year.

Treaty (a half-sister to three Stakes performers) produced a bay filly at Ecurie de Sud on 25 January and Fernando Laffon commented that she was a, "Gorgeous, strong filly."

The latest reported Native Trail foal to arrive was Woodford Stud's chesnut colt out of Amore Bello. The mare is a half-sister to two Group performers, including G3 Prix Miesque heroine More Than Love. Brian O'Neill reported that he is, "A quality colt with a great hip."

Native Trail was incredibly popular during his first season at stud, with 150 in-foal mares. Breeders to send mares to him in 2024 include Highclere Stud, Ringfort Stud, Tinnakill House Stud, Barton Stud, Littleton Stud, Brickfield Stud, Lynn Lodge Stud, Bearstone Stud, Whatton Manor Stud, Forenaghts Stud, Norelands Stud, Newsells Park Stud, Kildaragh Stud, Yeomanstown Stud, Pier House Stud, McCracken Farms, Ballyhimikan Stud, Tom & Clodagh Hassett, Redpender Stud, Cheveley Park Stud, Longview Stud, Croom House Stud and Petches Stud.

His first mares in foal sold for up to 330,000gns, to the likes of Meridian International, Ballylinch Stud, Yeomanstown Stud, Lillingston Bloodstock, Moyfinn Stud, Tally Ho Stud, Yeguada Centurian, Knockananig Stud and Briar Lane Stud.
