First foal for outstanding juvenile The Last Lion

‘Lovely quality strong colt’ arrives at Aughamore Stud

The first reported foal by G1 Middle Park Stakes winner The Last Lion was born on Saturday, 20 January at Michael Gleeson’s Aughamore Stud in Co Westmeath.

The colt (pictured below) is out of the Stakes-placed winner Aunt Julia (In The Wings), dam of two successful runners to date including five-time winner and G2 Royal Lodge Stakes third, Al Waab.

Michael Gleeson said of his new arrival, “He’s a lovely quality strong foal with good bone and limbs.

“He has a great outlook very much in the stamp of the sire line.

“We are delighted with him and will certainly be sending a mare back to the stallion again this year.”

The Last Lion was superb at two, never finishing out of the first three in 10 starts. He kicked off his racing career with victory in the Brocklesby and concluding with a thrilling triumph in the Middle Park.

The Last Lion stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €7,500 October 1, Special Live Foal.
