Fifth Group success for Blue Point

Son of Shamardal sprints to success in Meydan G2

Blue Point, a five-year-old son of Shamardal, made a perfect seasonal debut on Thursday, 14 February when taking the five furlong G2 Meydan Sprint in spectacular fashion. The winner of the G1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot last season, he was always travelling sweetly on the bridle and when asked to win the race under William Buick, he quickened clear to record a facile victory.

A superb juvenile when winning the G2 Gimcrack Stakes by three lengths, he was recording his seventh victory in 16 career starts. His next likely start will be in the G1 Al Quoz Sprint on Dubai World Cup night, won last season by Iffraaj’s talented son Jungle Cat.

Bred by Oak Lodge Stud and bought as a yearling for 200,000Gns, he is a half-brother to Group-winning juvenile Formosina and from the family of five-time Group winner Tumbleweed Ridge. His dam, Scarlett Rose is by the Champion sprinter Royal Applause.

Blue Point is one of 21 top-flight winners sired by Shamardal, including last season’s multiple G1-winner Pakistan Star. The winner of the Queen Elizabeth II Cup and Champions & Chater Cup in 2018, he lines up in the G1 Hong Kong Gold Cup this coming Sunday.
