Rio de la Plata arrived at Longchamp with a big reputation, having already landed the G2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood in the summer and finished runner-up to New Approach in the G1 National Stakes on his latest start. Against seven rivals at Longchamp, he asserted his class, cruising into the lead and drawing clear for a famous victory in the Godolphin colours.

On only his second start at ten furlongs, Rio de la Plata comfortably handled the extra trip to trounce a field of 16 that included five other G1 winners and numerous Stakes winners.

Just a month after his incredibly narrow second in the G1 Prix du Moulin, in which he defeated such as Siyouni, Lope de Vega and Paco Boy, Rio de la Plata resumed his G1-winning ways in Milan, showing all of his class and grit to triumph.
