New Approach juveniles set to strike

First post-Dawn Approach crop now ready to hit the racecourse

New Approach’s first crop hit the track in 2012 and they certainly didn’t take long to make their presence felt. No fewer than three took juvenile Stakes races at that year’s Royal Ascot Stakes (Dawn Approach, Newfangled and Tha’Ir) - a feat that had never been achieved before.

After such a tremendous start to his stud career, New Approach was rewarded with a book of truly outstanding mares and the resultant foals have now turned two. Below are just a small selection of some of the exciting prospects New Approach has to look forward to.

Ringleader (GB) ex Banks Hill

In training with Andre Fabre, the Juddmonte homebred colt is a son of European Champion filly Banks Hill, a daughter of the great Hasili and a sister to numerous stars including Dansili, Cacique, Champs Elysees and Intercontinental.

All three of Banks Hill’s progeny to have run so far have won and include G1-winning filly Romantica who is by New Approach’s own sire, Galileo.

Zakia (FR) ex Zarkasha

This half-sister to the great Zarkava is under the care of Alan de Royer-Dupre.

Bred by H.H. The Aga Khan, Zarkava took all before her in 2008, earning European Horse of the Year honours after victories in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, Prix de Diane, Poule d’Essai des Pouliches and Prix Vermeille. Her dam, the unraced Kahyasi mare Zarkasha, has also produced three further winners including 2014 Group winner Zarshana.

Filly ex Hazarafa

Dermot Weld trains this third foal of the Aga Khan’s Stakes-winning mare Hazarafa.

Hazarafa was successful in the mile-and-a-half Listed Finale Stakes at the Curragh and has already produced a highly-rated winner through her first foal, the lightly-raced multiple winner Harasava. Hazarafa is a daughter of G3W Hazariya and from the extended family of G1 winner Seal Of Approval (Authorized).

Colt ex Shotgun Gulch

Bred and retained by Al Shaqab Racing, this colt is training in the South West of France with Phillipe Sogorb.

Bought for $1,600,000 in 2012, Shotgun Gulch was a seven-time winner in the US with her victories including the G1 Madison Stakes over seven furlongs at Keeneland.

Marqoom (GB) ex Night Frolic

Shadwell Estate had to go to 200,000 gns to secure this New Approach colt out of the winning Night Shift mare Night Frolic.

Bred by Highclere Stud and Floors Farming, Night Frolic has already produced two Group winners by Darley stallions in G2 Dante Stakes hero Bonfire (Manduro) and Royal Ascot G2 winner Joviality (Cape Cross).

New Approach’s first-crop achieved an impressive 22% Stakes horses to runners and in addition to his aforementioned Royal Ascot winners, include Oaks heroine Talent, top-notch G1 winner Sultanina and Derby second Libertarian.

New Approach stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £60,000 Oct 1st, SLF. There are a limited number of nominations available for this season, so if you are interested in sending your mare, please contact our nominations team on +44 1638 730070.
