Earthlight remains unbeaten in the Middle Park Stakes

Son of Shamardal wins his second G1 of the year at Newmarket

Shamardal’s remarkable season continued on Saturday, 28 September when his juvenile son Earthlight remained unbeaten in the G1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket. Now the winner of all his five races including a last time out triumph in the Darley Prix Morny, he travelled sweetly under jockey Mickael Barzalona before asserting up hill to win by a neck.

Stopping the clock in 1:09.31, Earthlight broke Newmarket's juvenile track record and was the fastest winner of the race in its illustrious 153 year history.

Earthlight is out of the New Approach mare Winters Moon, a G1-placed juvenile who is a half-sister to top-flight scorers Wavering and Mandaean (Manduro). Earthlight is her first foal and she also has a yearling filly by Dubawi, a filly foal by Shamardal and is back in foal to Dubawi again this season.

Shamardal has been enjoying a superb 2019 with 15 Stakes winners. New Darley stallion Blue Point became the first horse to win three Royal Ascot G1 sprints back in June, wide-margin National Stakes hero Pinatubo is the best juvenile in Europe for 25 years and Castle Lady thrilled when taking the G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches.
