Caucus takes the Jockey Club Rose Bowl

Son of Cape Cross leads home a 1-2 for the Darley stallions in the Listed contest at Newmarket

Cape Cross, who only last weekend was responsible for impressive Mill Reef Stakes winner Moohaajim, further added to his tally of Stakes winners when his son Caucus came with a perfectly-timed run to take the Listed Jockey Club Rose Bowl (formerly the Fenwolf Stakes) on the first day of Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting.

Held up under William Buick, John Gosden’s charge began to make headway with three furlongs left to run and while Godolphin’s Cavalryman (Halling) loomed up in the centre of the course, it was Caucus who finished best of all, winning by two and a quarter lengths.

Owned and bred by Normandie Stud, Caucus is out of the Stakes-placed Sadler’s Wells mare Maid To Perfection, also dam of fellow Listed winner Queen Of Pentacles.

As well as the aforementioned Moohaajim, Cape Cross is also sire this year of G2 winner and G1-placed filly Joviality, and a further 14 Stakes performers.
