Caucus lands the Esher Stakes

Son of Cape Cross records his second Stakes win

Cape Cross’s son Caucus, last seen finishing second to subsequent G1 Gold Cup winner Estimate in the G3 Sagaro Stakes at Ascot, added further Black type to his record on 6 July when landing the Esher Stakes on Eclipse day at Sandown.

Never far from the pace under William Buick, Caucus took the lead two furlongs from home and held off a persistent challenge from Biographer to win by three quarters of a length, with the pair a full eight lengths clear of the rest of the field.

This was his second Stakes victory, having landed the Jockey Club Rose Bowl at Newmarket last September. He is now likely to be aimed at the Goodwood Cup.

Owned and bred by Normandie Stud, Caucus is out of the Stakes-placed Sadler’s Wells mare Maid To Perfection, also dam of fellow Listed winner Queen Of Pentacles.

Cape Cross is sire of 16 individual Stakes performers this year so far, and has sired no fewer than nine G1 winners during his illustrious career.
