Cape Cross sires his 82nd Stakes winner

Amazonas lands the Dick Hern Fillies' Stakes at Haydock

Amazonas, a three-year-old daughter of Cape Cross, landed her first Stakes victory on her belated seasonal debut when taking the Listed Dick Hern Fillies' Stakes at Haydock. A high-class juvenile, culminating in a third in the G1 Fillies' Mile behind Certify (Elusive Quality), she was never far off the slow early pace and quickened well to record a game neck triumph.

Owned and bred by Sir Robert Ogden, Amazonas is the first foal of the Stakes-placed mare Francesca d'Gorgio (Proud Citizen), who herself is a half-sister to last season's G1 juvenile filly Blonde Fog.

Sire of two of the best horses in recent memory in Ouija Board and Sea The Stars, Cape Cross has now sired 11 Stakes winners in 2013 including the progressive pair Guest Of Honour and Maputo, the high-earning Windhoek and a pair of European-bred Australian winners in Jet Away and Julienas. Cape Cross also sired a mammoth 31 individual winners in Europe in July, more than any other stallion.
