Brilliant Ribchester lands the G1 Prix du Moulin

Iffraaj’s superb son adds a fourth win at the highest level to his record in style at Chantilly

Ribchester has been a truly outstanding flagbearer for his sire Iffraaj this year, winning the G1 Lockinge before storming to a record-breaking victory in the G1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot (pictured). On Sunday, 10 September he added a third win at the highest level this year and fourth overall to his record with a dominant victory in the Prix du Moulin.

Settled just off the pace under James Doyle, Ribchester took up the running two furlongs from home and was never seriously troubled, staying on well to win by three quarters of a length. Hungerford Stakes winner Massaat (Teofilo) put up another strong performance to finish third.

The Richard Fahey-trained colt also won last year’s G1 Prix Jacques le Marois and the G2 Mill Reef Stakes at two. He is currently favourite to take the G1 QEII Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot next month.

Ribchester was bred by Andrew Thompson and Mike O’Brien and is out of Mujarah (Marju), who is a half-sister to three Black Type performers including Yaazy (Teofilo) and Zahoo, herself the dam of Cape Cross’s Group-winning son Convergence.

Ribchester is one of three 2017 G1 winners for Iffraaj, also sire of top southern hemisphere performers Gingernuts and Jon Snow.
