Blue Point sprints to success at Royal Ascot

Son of Shamardal lands the G1 King’s Stand Stakes

Blue Point, Shamardal’s brilliant four-year-old colt, showed devastating speed on the first day of Royal Ascot to win the five-furlong G1 King’s Stand Stakes. Tracking the early pace of Battaash, he challenged the early leader a furlong from home before drawing clear late to win by a huge length-and-three-quarters.

Now the winner of six career starts, he was a top-class juvenile when landing the G2 Gimcrack Stakes by three lengths. The winner of two more G3’s, he has also been placed in the G1 Middle Park, the G1 Dewhurst and the G1 Commonwealth Cup at the Royal meeting last season.

Bred by Oak Lodge Stud and bought as a yearling for 200,000Gns, he is a half-brother to Group-winning juvenile Formosina and from the family of five-time Group winner Tumbleweed Ridge. His dam, Scarlett Rose is by the Champion sprinter Royal Applause.

Blue Point becomes Shamardal’s 20th top-flight winner and his first at the minimum distance of five furlongs. He has also sired the multiple G1-winner Pakistan Star this season, who has won twice at the highest level in Hong Kong.
