Aga Khan-bred son of Iffraaj makes a winning debut at the Currgh

Mick Halford introduced a potentially smart colt on Monday 7 August when the Aga Khan-homebred Riyazan made a winning debut at the Curragh. Belying greenness, the son of Iffraaj quickened clear in the final furlong to beat some potentially useful rivals by upwards of two-and-three-quarter lengths.

Riyazan is the first foal of the Dalakhani mare Riyaba, who is a half-sister to Pretty Polly Stakes heroine Riyalma.

He is the seventh winner from Iffraaj's juvenile crop, the first conceived at a fee of €25,000 after Chriselliam and Rizeena's two-year-old top-flight victories. Five were winners in July and included the very impressive Mythical Magic, rated 93P by Timeform after his debut victory at Ascot.
